Island Team Successes at BC Summer Games
From July 19-22 2018, Cowichan played host the BC Summer Games where Zone 6 (Vancouver Island-Central Coast) fielded one U15 Boys team and one U15 Girls team, with head coaches Riley Murray for Boys and Patrick Ryan for Girls.
On the Boys side, our athletes were part of an extremely competitive pool in the round robin, where their excellent record of one draw and two wins left them tied on points for top spot. They finished the tourney fourth after a really tough final match against Vancouver Coastal.
Our Girls finished their round robin with a record of one tie and one win, and went on to play a strong final match, taking home the first Gold medal for Island girls since 2002!!!

Sarah Zuccaro, an accomplished student and a member of the U18G Storm team, who also played with VI Wave, Harbour City FC, Whitecaps Academy and BC Summer Games as she grew up, won the TD scholarship. Congratulations Sarah – we are proud of you! Wishing you all the best as you head off to varsity soccer at university!
Coach Ash Mohtadi was recognized with a BC Soccer Award of Merit.
Congratulations Ash- well deserved!
Ash served for many years as the VP of Development at the Comox Valley United Soccer Club, where he was responsible for many of their great programming initiatives. He established a Bambinos program that brought U4 and U5 players into the cub for fun-focussed sessions with their parents at the pitch, a program that is still going strong 15 years later. Ash also ran the District Development Centre at CVUSC. So many local families have happy memories of Ash at DDC! Ash has been an enthusiastic and positive coach for all these years too, whose commitment to coaching goes well beyond supporting his own family’s interest: a highly-certified coach himself, he has become a BC Soccer learning facilitator and now provides grassroots coaching courses in the Comox Valley. Ash also continues to contribute to our youth as part of the Riptide technical team, and to women’s soccer as the assistant coach of the Vancouver Island University women’s team.
